Psychlis thinks to run back to a more secure position, but Leath's Stone Call slows them down sufficiently to give him enough breathing room to risk another chance of firing with his flamethrower, growling at how much of an injury he took from the mandible. "By the Hagia Sophia, where's that damn cleric when we need him?!"

[Attack roll=13]
A tongue of flame from Psychlis' device doses the ant swarm, igniting them like kindling. [19 damage, plus 4 burning damage from prior round, for 23 total]
The ant horde suddenly seems like it is thinning out, but Mordred himself is now advancing.
"Hans! Snipe him!" Lt. Foster says.

Hans pulls out his musket and aims down his sights at Mordred's head, slowing his breath to a near halt, before pulling the trigger [grit].

Hans aims at the druid's exposed head, and his shot flies out the longarm. His weapon thunders across the battlefield, and the effects are immediate.
[Attack roll=19, crit confirmed. Hans deals 11 damage]
What is left of Mordred's head is a bloody mess on ground. His body collapses a second afterwards.
---
Lt. Foster fires an arrow at the corpse, just to be sure.

The ant swarm, meanwhile, loses any cohesion that it once had. The insects begin attacking each other, others retreating, and some aimlessly wandering in circles. Reinforcements burst out of trenches to drive them back, and the insects are easy prey.
[Combat ended.]
"Forwards! Now's our chance!" Lt. Foster says. "Brandon's got some special reinforcements for the factory."
She leads the party forwards, behind an advance guard of skirmishers. The run through the shell-cratered moonscape of the deserted city, towards the brick factory towering over the nearby harbor.
[The adventure continues in Part 3-3: Engines of War.]
