Background:

Aldeus has as many backstories as he has scars across his shoulders. A true storyteller would be his comrades best description, whereas a stranger will mistrust him for his fabrications.

The most consistent story he gives is that he was enslaved by a group of government loyalists towards the eastern partially-habitable stretches of Siberia. His captors took on the role of his elders, as his merchant parents were taken in as common thieves and hanged unceramoniously in the town square before his mind was old enough to care. His own captors were the only parents Aldeus has ever had.

Aldeus escaped the only life he ever knew, and traveled west in search of a purpose. His call was answered along the way where he recognized his considerable skill as a problem-solver-for-hire. Whatever issue may be plaguing an individual - Aldeus will resolve for a price. Mediating an argument, recovering lost property, or murder - the task is not of importance to Aldeus, as long as it brings him his moment's desire.

Elements of his past may be truth and may be fiction, so he is best judged by his actions in the present. He is an adept thief and avoids hand-to-hand combat, but if engaged, he is quite capable with small swords and daggers.

Somewhere deep within, Aldeus understands that if not for his captors, he would surely have been hanged as a thief, as his parents were, so he has a warped sensibility of what is in "his best interest".
