Okay, there's a minor detail with the background. Moscow won't exist (at least not as a city) for a few more centuries, but Orgoth could be from Novgorod or Kiev. He can still be from proto-Moscow, but it's mostly just an obscure settlement around 1000 AD.

Alright. I wasn't actually sure if it existed, because Wikipedia said 'before 1134'. But I'll change it. However, is there a more north-eastern city than the two you named?

I did a quick search. Rostov Veliky is a city located 202 kilometers north east of Moscow, on the shores of Lake Nero, and was founded in 862, according to wikipedia! Sounds like this could work for you!

No worries man. I did not read very extensively, but apparently there's a number of cities in Russia at that time that are all listed as "Golden Ring". If you want to look into it more, and maybe find something that suits you better.

Background
Russia is a country that is cold and unforgiving. So are the Red Sons.
Orgoth was born among the Red Sons. He was spawned by the leader, Aslow Bloodhelm, to one day take over the Red Sons. It is not uncommon for Orc Leaders to spawn Half-Orcs to take over the clan. Half-Orcs were generally smarter than regular Orcs, and therefore make great leaders. Orgoth was spawned just outside of Rostov Veliky. His Human mother remains unknown to him. Soon after his birth it became terribly clear that Orgoth was not meant to take over the Red Sons; he was as dumb as a bag of hammers. So, when he was 8, he was sold to a Siberian farmer. This is how Orgoth lived for most of his life. He would be sold off during the summer to help with construction work, and when it became winter again he would be sold again to help on farms.
After a few years of doing this back breaking work, he was sick and tired of being used as a tool. He grabbed the nearest axe, walked up to his master and in one sweep decapitated him. It felt good. Really good. So when it became obvious that the farmer's pitiful coinpurse wasn't going to last him the winter, he knew what to do. He became a hireling. A thug. A real good one even. So good, people outside of Rostov Veliky heard of him. And that's what brought him here. In Venice.
