"The shrine is a massing point for Mordred's giant insects, so any druid there will need protection," Brandon says. "But if some planar artifact is buried at the dig site, it may indeed be better suited to your experiences. Either way, I will have another team cleanse the shrine."
"Brandon, them with Lt. Foster. She'll guide them to the site," Baines says.
"Very well," Brandon says. "If you need support, use flares, a message or dancing lights spell. I'll have some militia nearby to waylay any enemy reinforcements while you confront the garrison."
A woman walks into the room. A longbow is slung across her back. She's dressed in leather armor with green highlights, and has short brown hair with a bandana around her forehead. She leads the party out with her. "I'm Lt. Irene Foster, 14th Rangers Corp," she salutes by putting her right hand over her eyes. "Pleased to meet you. I'll guide you to the ruins."
The ranger leads them through a cave, while other guards and soldiers move around nearby them. At the end of the passage, a bald man standing behind a stack of crates hands out parcels to those leaving. Irene takes a cloth-bound object in her hands, before distributing them to the rest of the party. "Here are your rations, some trail mix of nuts and dried fruit, with filtered water. There's also a compass and map in your pack. Eat on the way there."

The party leaves through a narrow tunnel (forcing Flann to take a slightly longer route), and emerge within a rocky outcropping in the woods. They advance slowly downhill as Lt. Foster leads the way. Flann rejoins them at a cave entrance in the base of the hill, and they peer down a visible hillside. Part of the ruins are exposed, but the rest are hidden beneath the tree canopy.
[Psychlis' knowledge (engineering) roll: 9]
The structure consists of a rectangular stone building partially sunk into the ground, largely devoid of any particular historical architecture or construction style Psychlis can recognize. Soldiers in gray uniforms wielding muskets are visible on the roof. Below them, mercenaries sort through piles of dirt and rubble. There are open crates of shovels, picks, and other digging tools. Given the mound of dirt outside one of the entrances, the digging's been going on at a fairly rapid pace. Above it, there's a rocky hillside giving the party partial cover as they advance.
[Leath's knowledge (nature) roll: 12]
Leath notices something along the hillside. There's a number of boulders on unstable ground. They'd be easy to miss from the angle the rest of the party's positioned at. Perhaps an appropriate spell, a simple lever, or some explosives could dislodge them, and send them barreling down the hillside.
Alicia notices a translucent figure standing before them. He's dressed as a Greek hoplite, with bronze armor, a round shield, and a polished spear, pointing his weapon directly at the unstable boulders.
Lt. Foster takes the party behind a rocky outcropping and whispers to them. "There's a few ways to do this. We could try approaching with a deal, try a downhill charge, we could flank through the forest, or maybe fire a few shots to draw them out and then charge or ambush," she muses. "If anyone else has some ideas, let's hear 'em."
