Since the number of travelers had decreased significantly, Elgeon was in a continuous state of high alertness. As soon as he hears the footsteps through the vegetation, he grabs his bow and reaches in his back nock an arrow. As the man emerges from the brambles, Elgeon is already aiming in that direction, ready to release his arrow. The man collapses, and after a very brief moment of awkward silence, Elgeon waits for Darian to react to Alicia's suggestion, while still aiming at the fallen man.

Darian slowly approaches, arms spread to the side to show he's unarmed. His shield and morningstar are on his back, ready just in case he needs them.
"Are you okay? Are you injured? I can help."
He turns to his companions. "Stay behind me, but be ready."

Teo is unafraid of the man but very concerned about what lies in the opening in the woods that the man was gesturing towards. His vision has never been noteworthy, but nonetheless he squints and tries to see if there is any impending danger lurking in the forest.

Leath stands close to the fallen man, giving the cleric a chance to heal him but remaining near in case his minor healing skills are needed. He unsheathes his sword and divides his attention between the man on the ground and the smoke ahead. In spite of the danger, he feels at home in the woods, ready for anything.

Milford squints in the direction the ragged man warned of and prepares his mind for possible spell combat. Let the others look after his wounds, clearly danger is near. Or worse, it could be a trap. "Get down! We may be in danger" he says in a hushed voice. He approaches within 10 feet of the man and summons the fog of the sea to conceal their position. The man rolls up into a kneeling position using his hands to steady himself, his entire body still trembling (but you probably cant see any of this because of the mist). A voice still panting (you can only guess it to be the man's voice) rasps out of the mist "Help... Bandits... chasing me... days...".

Elgeon relaxes the string of his bow, but keeps the arrow nocked, ready for anything. Half a day of walk, and already they are encountering what Matteo Anafesto had described... Worrying much less about the obviously exhausted man, the ranger raises a hand, as if to say to his closest companions to be silent, and tries to pick up the sound of eventual bandits that might come from where this man emerged.

A thin mist surrounds the party, unfurling like a silk cloth in the wind. A frantic barking is heard through the distant woods. Elgeon hears the dog before the others do, and from the way the sounds echo through the woods, correctly predicts that it will be coming from the northeast. While the other members of the group hear the barking, Elgeon also hears at least three people walking behind, careless brutes trampling through the forest. His keen elven ears pick up their banter as well.
[Perception roll for Elgeon: 17+10=27]
"The dog's found something!" one of the bandits calls. "If it's the fat one, I'm taking his head back to the boss for the reward."
"Not if I get it first," another says. "We better get 'em quick, since we're our of our turf."
Elgeon sees the dog for a moment, a mutt with matted brown fur and scars across the skin hanging off of its nearly skeletal body. The animal approaches the edge of the mist, and continues barking.

"Fucking finally! Orgoth shut up dog now." Orgoth jumps at the dog, his axe steady in his hand. When he's close enough, he tries to cleave the dog in half.

Darian quickly checks the man, who is assuming to be the guy that their employer wanted to see, over, for any wounds. [Heal check]
He then steps in front of the man and readies his shield and weapon. Nobody was getting through the cleric.

She remains perfectly still at Elgeons request wary of the increasingly closer barking. She was still uncertain if she was cut out for doing this kind of work with unknown companions but brief glance to the ever present figure at her side cloaked in cloth and fog brings a certain level of comfort to her uncertainty. Feeling the stress of his master, her companion stiffens fingering the hilt of the large blade strapped to his back intrepidly readying for an attack from any angle.

The stranger thanks the cleric and stands up. His hands begin to fidget frantically as he sees the group preparing for combat. "No-no-no I cannot expect you to die for me... There are so many of them... and undead... help get me safely to Matteo Anafesto within the city and I will see that you are reimbursed." His voice, much smoother and deeper now.

Seeing Orgoth charge at the dog and Darian enter a battle stance, Elgeon raises his bow again, fully drawing the string of his bow until the feathers of the arrow touch his cheek. He's ready to fire as soon as he can spot any movement.
"Bandits are following the dog, get ready!" He warns the rest of the group.

"How many? What kind of undead?" This must be the German, or a trap. Milford steps directly behind Orgoth. Magical energies swirl about his body in the mist as he prepares for the snarling dog. If that brute fails to eviscerate the mutt, he will be ready.
[ready an action for directly after Orgoth's attack]

[OOC: I can't tell if who (if any) of us are still in the mist. But, if we are, this is what Teo does if we're all still obscured.]
[Bluff Check] He has used this trick many times to frighten the children of his home town but never in such a serious situation. Teo makes his voice as deep as possible while hidden by the conjured mists. "Brigands!" He booms with surprising volume. "Your quarry has come under our protection. We are a council of traveling wizards. Turn away and no harm shall come to you." He smiles at his own cleverness and tries to see if any of his new friends are impressed.
[OOC: Teo does the following if we're out of the fog....] Teo wasn't ready for combat quite this early in the journey. He timidly readies his crossbow.
