The stranger turns to the mage. "They came in the night... attacked my caravan... killed all my guards," The stranger pauses to wipe tears from his eyes. "There were dozens of them... bandits of course but also foul things... moving bones... I couldn't see very clearly and then I was blindfolded."

Darian examines the man, and makes a few observations. The sweat soaking his body and rapid heart rate indicate the stranger has been running for a while, and is likely stressed. He also notes some signs of dehydration, and some water and rest could do much to help him.
[Healing roll: 14+4=18]

Orgoth swings his greataxe towards the irritating dog, eager to silence the mangy mutt. The animal sniffs near the edge of the fog bank, and is caught unaware until the last moment. The massive weapon sweeps down, nearly slicing the dog in half.
[Orgoth's attack roll: 15, damage roll: 8+5=13]
---
Teo waits behind the veil of fog for a response, as Elgeon exhales with his bow string. The tension fills the air like the ranger's taught bowstring.
"Who's there?!" one of the bandits shouts. "Come out where we can see ya!"
"I can't see anyone!" another proclaims. "Anyone hear the dog?"
"Who cares about the stupid mutt?" a third shouts. "Let's get back to the others!"
[Teo's Bluff check: 10+9=19]
The party hears footsteps through the woods, this time in the opposite direction. Elgeon exhales slightly as the bandits flee through the woods.

Leath shudders as Orgoth's axe brings a sudden end to the dog's life. Godforsaken barbarians. No respect for animal life. A dog in the company of the undead, though...he wasn't sure how to feel about that. The perversion of Nature's laws that was responsible for the undead in the first place riled him; he wanted to follow them through the fog and exterminate them, but he thought better of it.

"Ha! Bootiful!" He pulls is axe back from the mutt. It's soaked in blood. Orgoth wipes his axe on a patch of grass next to the dog. He then looks around. Everybody was immediately ready. Orgoth is impressed. He sees whay Darian has done to the German. He will be very useful once we get to real fighting. But mostly he is impressed by Teo. The little man was able to scare away three bandits by merely shouting at them. He walks over to him. "Little man somehow scare bandits. Orgoth impressed." And he pats him on the shoulder. Orgoth then leans against a tree, because surely we would have to hear the German's story, and something told him it would take some time before they continue their travels.

The stranger exhales slowly as the bandits leave. Waiting for a minute he listens carefully to make sure that they are not coming back. "Thank you so much travellers! That was very impressive. You have indeed saved this sorry wretch from a likely death" he exclaims surveying the group with a beaming grin on his face. "I should probably introduce myself. I am Hans Flugen, a humble merchant very much in your debt," he bows slowly, his voice now a smooth blend of honey and lavender.

"Good show Teo! And what a swing!" escapes Milford's mouth before he could curb his excitement. Perhaps this brute isn't so stupid after all. Simple maybe, but he did appreciate the subversion he and Teo able to pull off.
But this Hans guy, just happened to plop right into our lap. Milford eyes him suspiciously. He seems to fit the description, though. Better check for enchantments.
[casts detect magic and focuses cone on Hans. If Hans notices, he says, "Just a precaution, I'm sure you understand."]

Glancing around and seeing the relieved smiles of his friends is worth more to Teo than anything Matteo could offer.
Teo is beaming. He wasn't sure his "pranks and tricks" (as his adoptive parents referred to them) would serve him well in the midst of combat, but he feels reassured by his early success.
He cheers for Orgoth, "Great strike, friend!"
He then turns to Hans and smiles, "Mucho gusto, I'm Teo! But no need to concern yourself with debts, I'm sure you would have done the same for us!"

She motions for her companion to stand down as the sound of footsteps retreat into the distance. With a gentle sigh she composes her slightly straightening up he traveling cloak as he introduced himself.
"Well of course he would, would you not Mr. Flugen?" She says making her way to him giving a slight smile and nod to Teo as she comes up to them.
"It seems our meeting is more fortuitous than simply saving your life. We appear to have a friend in common in Mr. Anafesto. "She says extending a hand to him. "Alicia Moon, it is a pleasure to meet you so soon" She says extending the smile to him

Elgeon, very impressed with the way the group reacted to the situation, but always wary and still under the effect of the pre-battle adrenaline rush, remains outside of the circle of his companions surrounding this Hans Flugen, silent and making sure he cannot hear the bandits anymore.
He then turns towards the group and says: "Friends, I hate to interrupt the introductions, but I think it would be safer to find a spot to set camp for the night, while there's still some light left. Unless we can reach Scalo Est before total nightfall".

"Well what about them bandits?" Orgoth looks at the rest of the group, trying to find the right words to make it not come out wrong. In his mind he's fumbling with the words and how it could be interpreted, so it takes a few second for him to continue talking. He frowns and stares at the ground. Then he suddenly knows what to say. "They be gone now, but if us group surprise bandits now we no worry. Nobody worry. Also might find clues why bandit more active. You know, Evidence."

Milford detects no magic on the merchant, although he does smell strongly of sweat.
---
As the sun sets below the horizon, the party realizes they can likely make some more time before nightfall. Perhaps putting someone perceptive in the front of the party could give them advance warning of any bandits or other threats.

"Of course of course!" Hans replies to Teo and Alicia with a reassuring grin. Turning to the ranger, Hans nods, "Very true... we should probably move on... this is probably more your expertise than mine though, I am road man myself."
He nods thoughtfully at the orc's suggestion, pretending he is not worried.
Hans notices that the mist sorcerer's nostrils spasm as he stands near Hans. Hans hurriedly starts making sweeping motions at his clothes and mumbling something under his breath (prestidigitation). You notice that patches of his tunic begin to return to a purest white and his pants a bright green. Also the air seems slightly fresher...

Hans' tunic seems to be alabaster white for a short time, despite clods of dirt falling off as he returns to himself. The foul odor of sweat, likewise, begins to return as the spell fades.
---
Elgeon notices something strange, his elven senses noting the bandits' footprints as darkness comes. The group had at 3 bandits in it, but the trio of robbers leaves the road about a hundred feet away from their current position.
[Everyone gets 600 XP for the resolving the bandit encounter with decisive action and guile.]

[OOC] I think prestidigitation can clean permanently? I saw this on a pathfinder text for the spell: "Any actual change to an object (beyond just moving, cleaning, or soiling it) persists only 1 hour."

As a very curious creature, the ranger would love to follow the tracks, and it would probably be fruitful for the whole investigation. But it is soon going to be completely dark, and considering the size of the group, it would be tricky to track the bandits sneakily. He decides to share his thoughts with Darian and see what he thinks.
