As the party heads through a second set of doors, they hear a strange, inhuman shriek. Suddenly, the lights go out, and they are left within pitch black, although Jiao manages to light a torch with his spells.
"Stay on your toes," he whispers to the others. "I don't like this."
A skittering sound comes from nearby as something cold brushes Leath's leg.

Leath springs backward, an oath bursting from his lips and his sword flashing out of his sheath as he does so. All that keeps him from swinging is the thought that it might have been an accident--one of those mechanical spiders, which have seemed harmless so far, moving blindly in the dark. Blade poised to strike, he looks to see what brushed his leg, what screamed, and if they are one and the same.

Hans quickly turns to try and open the door they entered from.

As the dark envelopes them, Azreal adjusts to darkvision going on full alert but remains calm enough to place a hand on Alicia's shoulder to both mentally and physically affirm her safety. He continues a steady report with her noting their surrounding through the link. [Perception]

[Perception roll=19]
Azreal notices the thing before Alicia does. Jiao's torchlight reflects off its polished brass hide. The constructor has eight spider like legs, but the top is not the same as the previous constructs. It is like a mechanical centaur, only with spider legs instead of a horse's. A humanoid head and torso move around, and each hand terminates in an intricate claw like mechanism. There is a needle at the end of the creature's left arm dripping with some strange substance, and a pincer on the right.
"Biopsy," a voice sounds in Alicia's and Phobos' heads. "New specimens."

Seeing the creature, Azreal instinctively steps in front of Alicia readying his blade for a moments notice. Alicia's eye widen in shock as the creature is revealed.
"Not Specimens, Not Specimens" She says frantically out of reflex through her mental connection

"I've never tried this on a creature like this, but now's as good a time as any to experiment," Psychlis mutters. He needs information from this construct on the next part of their journey. The spider construct they encountered earlier only gave his helmet the faintest outline of what lay ahead. This larger one possibly had more information. That meant not destroying it if he could help it.
"Hypnotism!" he casts, directing the spell at the construct.

Being a wizard, Psychlis realizes that the construct in fact has no mind that could be affected by the spell. More likely, it has some guidelines for its behavior, guidelines which seem to indicate it takes samples from living specimens.
"Human tissue already found," the construct speaks telepathically to the party. It clanks towards Azreal, extending its pincer. "Specimen unknown. Biopsy required."

Azreal Draws its blade defensively brandishing it toward the pincers waiting for the right moment to strike. "We need to disable this thing quickly. I have a bad feeling that attacking this thing is going to stir up a mess of hornets." She says casting a proctective sheen of force over Azreal metallic skin.

Hans and Psychlis spot something glimmering on the ceiling above. One of the lights starts flashing rather rapidly, ceasing as a small blue light on the construct's shoulder repeats the sequence.
"Central processing reports no data on file."

"I think it's receiving orders from up there." Hans draws his musket and aims it towards the lights.
"But it sounds like it doesn't need human samples, is there any way you could unsummon your pet-thing Alicia? Perhaps if there are no unknown specimens it will stop?"

Leath lets out a mournful groan and hangs to the back of the party. "Try what Hans says," he suggests. He has no ideas of his own when faced with this strange, mechanical, psychic environment, other than to go back and hang around with the bears. Like Alicia, he is afraid of angering whatever bizarre forces control this place. He has no wish to fight enemies he cannot understand.

She glances to Hans as if to give a snarky remark over the pet comment but then glances back to the contraption and concedes the point. "You make a good point..." She releases the energy keeping Azreal on this plane promptly causing him to wink out of existence.. "For once at least"

"Specimen gone. Commencing search parameters," the construct says.
It turns around, and walks out of the hallway, back into the conservatory room. As the door slams shut behind it, the party sees what they assume is the main lab into the laboratory complex. It's a brass and copy door, sleek and ornamented, somehow both archaic and futuristic at once. There is a skeleton in front of the door, clad in some type of metal armor. Beside the door is a bank of levers and buttons.

Hans lowers his musket and wipes a thick layer of sweat from his forehead. "Is everyone alright? No one missing any body parts?" Hans jests as he lights a torch and surveys the party and their new surroundings.
Upon noticing the armoured skeleton at the door Hans immediately checks the area surrounding the remains for traps or some insight into how the poor fellow died and how Hans might avoid the same fate. [perception]
