"Worth a shot," Jiao muses. "Go for it."

"Great! Let's give it a go." Hans grins and steps a few paces away from the door.

Taking a step back from the door, wary of the lightning within it, Leath rolls up his sleeves and swipes his hands downward and out in the direction of the door like a conductor attacking the first note of a symphony. [Create Water.]

Seeing him prepare to cast the spell she promptly retreats to a safe distance.

The jet of water arcs into the door, just as a bolt of electricity leaps back towards the druid. Leath is lucky to just avoid being struck, but the hum coming from the door is gone. The release of a lock is heard, and the two doors open up, revealing what is beyond.
"Door 44 shorted out," a voice speaks telepathically to the party.
The next room can be seen clearly from the party's current position, as it is well lit by the artificial lightning-powered lights. The center of the room holds an opaque class sphere the size of a carriage, with a door that people could walk in. Within, is a pulsating white spherical light.
Below the central sphere, however, is a pit surrounded by a glass-like material. There are person-sized holes within, should the party seek to descend within. Near the pit are small cages, likely some manner of holding cell. In the central pit is an arena of some kind, but not a gaudy spectacle like the Roman coliseum. Instead, there are strange instruments protruding from the walls, perhaps part of some warped experimental apparatus.
There are currently two combatants fighting, both ignoring the intruders (or unaware of them). A strange lizard emerges from a blue portal, standing upright on two legs and being approximately the height of a man. A construct, similar to the biopsy machine from before, emerges from a trapdoor in the floor. The lizard has half-moon shaped claws on its feet, and eagerly kicks at the machine.
"Construct combat situation beginning," the voice says to the party.

"Bravo Leith," Hans claps and steps into the room, steering clear of the pit. Intentionally ignoring the fight, he looks around for exits out of the new room and briefly inspects the carriage [perception & detect magic].

Hans notices the object is not a carriage, but instead a large sealed chamber of some kind. It is on the other side of the room, so they'll have to make their way past the pit where the construct and creature are fighting.
[Perception roll=6]
The chamber itself has an overwhelming aura of abjuration magic, likely as some kind of ward or shield, or conjuration magic, perhaps related to the portal opening that the creature walked out of.
"New entrants detected," a voice speaks telepathically to the party. "Identify."

Her eyes widen in wonder at the complexity of the set up. In particular the spectacle going on in the pit seems to intrigue her the most. "Automated Gates? ........." she asks idly to herself trying to place the creature (Knowledge Planes) but her question falls short as the voice asks its question. "Alicia, Clarify Entrants"She states outright but her tone is a little unsure as she gives a quick glance back at the pit.

"Hans" Hans bows, out of habit, to the voice in his head.

"Leath MacCluin," the druid says aloud, uncomfortable at hearing a voice in his head and uncertain whether he was supposed to attempt to answer telepathically or just speak out as he did.

"Psychlis Phobos," he grumbles reluctantly, not liking at all where this interrogation is going. An invisibility spell is on the tips of his lips, just in case he needs a quick evasion route.

Alicia is at a total loss for information regarding the creature, but given the portal is used to move it into the pit, it likely is either being teleported in from another part of the complex, or perhaps another plane or even time.

"Names not in registry," the voice telepathically says. "Registry last updated one hundred years, two decades, three weeks, six days, eleven hours, two minutes, and twenty one seconds ago by user Ionian Expedition Leader. Do you wish to update registry?"

Psychlis thinks for a moment. "At least that confirms what we suspected about the Ionians," he grumbles to himself, racking his brain about what he'd read of the forgotten civilization in his old tomes. Perhaps if he can recall the proper command structure of the Ionians, he can give the creature some false information about how high up in the ranks the party is. If the creature is updating their records, the party might be able to pass itself off as high-functioning dignitaries, granting them access.

Psychlis realizes the Ionians were fond of ranks and bureaucracy almost as much as the modern Byzantines were. They based their ranks on an offshoot of Plato's Academy, although their leader was assigned as the Scholarch. He could clam to be a new party send from the respective Ionian scholarch from that era, or perhaps even make up a name. He had best decide quick, he realizes.
[Knowledge arcana roll=17]
Spider like constructs, two on each side, descend from the walls. These have electric prods where a spider's fangs would be, and march around the party in a circle at a uniform distance.
"Status, please." The voice says.

"Update registry! UPDATE REGISTRY!" Hans says in a panic, not wishing to be vaporised by these creatures.
